    The Museum of Danish America seeks a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as part-time Events Planner. This is a new position responsible for planning, promoting, and implementing events both onsite in Elk Horn and around the United States. Working with Communications, Education, and Development staff, the Events Planner will be the primary contact point for venues, caterers, guest reservations, and event set-up details. This position is flexible with an expected schedule averaging 15-20 hours per week. The ideal candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication and time management skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Hourly wage $20-$25/hour, depending on experience.     JOB DESCRIPTION:  

    SUMMARY:

    This is a non-exempt, part-time position. Under general supervision of the Executive Director, the Events Planner is responsible for planning, promoting, and implementing events both onsite in Elk Horn and around the United States. Working with Communications, Education, and Development staff, the Events Planner will be the primary contact point for venues, caterers, guest reservations, and event set-up details

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Schedule events at the Museum and other locations across the country
    • Determine
      • Budget
      • Venue
      • Catering Needs
      • Other details as determined by event and venue
    • Working with the development team determine guest list, develop and send invitations
    • Monitor RSVPs
    • Finalize details of event, i.e. final numbers to caterer, name, tags, programs

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This currently is not a supervisory position; however, this job may require effectively working with volunteers as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum two (2) years of experience in office, hospitality, project management or related fields
    • Knowledge of computers and computer software, particularly Microsoft Office, and the ability to adapt to and / or learn new software
    • Effective written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
    • Ability to meet deadlines
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all co-workers and the general public and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to effectively present information about the Museum and its purpose to the general public; ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the general public; ability to effectively present information to supervisors and/or co-workers.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and sales tax.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
