A to Z to A Household FurnishingsThese two quilts share a very similar story; they were both made as farewell gifts for the families of Danish-American pastors:
In the summer of 1941 the crazy quilt was given to Gerda Dorthea Christensen Duus, wife of Pastor Vagn H. Duus, by the Badger/Hetland congregation; her husband had accepted a call from a church in Danevang, Texas. The various velvet fabrics in the quilt are likely to be much older than the quilt itself, having been saved from old gowns originally brought from Denmark where many of the people in the congregation were born.
Similarly, the yellow and white quilt was given to Pastor Nels B. Hansen in 1928 by the congregation of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hampton, Nebraska, when he and his family moved to Fremont, Nebraska.
