This button is from Carl Mehr's run for California Governor in 2003. Carl Mehr was born in Canada as a U.S. citizen (his father served in the U.S. Army during WWI), but grew up in Denmark. He attended public school in Ræhr, and later Thisted High School where he graduated in 1949 before returning to the United States. Mehr worked at IBM and General Dynamics as a computer and electronics expert before moving to real estate. As of 2003, he lived in San Diego with his wife.

In 2010, Carl Mehr visited The Danish Immigrant Museum and was "re-united" with the campaign button, at least long enough to pose for a photograph.
